ABSTRACT

One of the most important factors in auditory perception of cochlear implanted children is age. This paper aims to compare hearing and auditory perception among children implanted in 6 different age groups:
1.(0.3yrs), 2.(3-5yrs), 3.(5-7yrs), 4.(7-9yrs), 5.(9-11yrs), 6.(> 11yrs).

The six groups of the children in the study were matched on socioeconomic status ,residual hearing before cochlear implantation, the kind of device and communication mode and primary language in family.

All of them have used the device minimally for one year. No child had an additional disability or a history of meningitis. We tested the subjects with a range of closed and open set auditory perception tests and compared the level of auditory perception in different age groups.

Results show that the best age for cochlear implantation in children with congenitally deafness is 0-3 years old.
