ABSTRACT From 1993 cochlear implant (CI) surgery was performed by the Iranian Institute of Science and Research Development team first in a postlingually deaf patient who had meningitis because of an accident. Up to now we have performed 160 cochlear implantations. The purpose of this article was to discuss the result of the surgery procedure and complications affecting the observed anomalies and how to control the gusher during operation. One of the major complications of CI is the CSF gusher and any surgeon involved in CI should know how to control it. Congenital anomalies of the cochlea including Mondini dysphasia are much more common in children and also a large vestibule aqueduct can lead to a gusher. |
