ABSTRACT Up to the beginning of 1991, 190 patients had undergone implantation at the three cochlear implant center in Iran. At the Iranian Institute of Science and Research Development we have performed more than 160 cochlear implantation . Having acquired experience in patient rehabilitation CI surgery in children was performed in 6-years-old deaf children; the number has increased to 134 now and most of the cases were between 4 and 7 years old and the youngest child that we implanted was 15 month old. Cochlear implants are
electronic devices that are introduced surgically into the inner ear and
directly stimulate the auditory nerve in response to sound [1-3]. They
have been effective and reliable in postlingually deaf adults. this is
also true for congenitally deaf and preligually deaf children up to the
age of 6 years [4] . Recently the US FOOD and Drug the use of cochlear
implants in patients with considerable sensorineural benefit (<30%
speech discrimination) from hearing aids (HA) [5].
