ABSTRACT

Following the successful cochlear implantation in adults and by gaining experience in rehabilitating the patient ,we began the cochlear implantation program in children. Patients' ages ranged from 6 to 10 years. Two of them were prelingually deaf and two other patients were perlingually deaf due to their meningitis and trauma. The most suitable age for starting the surgery was considered to be 3 years of age .

The cochlear implant program is similar to that of adults and our opinion it is important that the parents of the children have a realistic expectation of the outcome of the treatment. we also consider a good social condition and normal intelligence important criteria .
