TITLE: MEDICAL & SURGICAL ASPECTS OF COCHLEAR IMPLANTATION SURGERY( A REVIEW OF 100 CASES)

ABSTRACT


Since 1993 one hundred patients had undergone cochlear implantation surgery in Iran Institute of sciences and research development .

Patients age range was from 22 months up to 51 years old. The etiology of patients deafness can be divided into: Congenital (54%), Meningitis (22%),Ototoxic drugs (10%) Trauma (4%), progressive sensory-neural hearing loss (2%), and by Unknown origin (8%).

The surgeries were performed by 2 surgeons, patients were selected according to both Iranian (cultural) and International criteria. 

No major complication was observed after surgeries, however minor complication were :
Flap necrosis (1%), Transient Facial Paralysis (2%),CSF gusher at the time of surgery (3%), electrode Reinsertion (1%).
